In this lesson I will discuss the case study topic that had been assigned to my group which is the topic of "Inland Port in Bukit Kayu Hitam Special Border Economic Zone (SBEZ).

Malaysian government decides to build a new inland port in SBEZ that will boost the logistics activities and economic at cross border Malaysia-Thailand. Thus the aspect of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) should be highlighted.

INLAND PORT
An inland port is a port on an inland waterway, such as a river, lake, or canal, which may or may not be connected to the sea. The term "inland port" is also used to refer to a dry port.

KEDAH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY PARK (KSTP)
One of Kedah initiative center for high technology industries in the region. Many international, multi-national and global industrial players and corporations have made Kedah their home E-base that serves the thriving world economy.
BUKIT KAYU HITAM SPECIAL BORDER ECONOMIC ZONE (SBEZ)
Based on my understanding, I would support government decision to build inland port in SBEZ. It is because I studied in Sintok Kedah, thus I know that the border or Malaysia-Thailand are busy with people going to Danok and Thailand.
With this inland port in SBEZ, it will enhance the logistics and supply chain management even more actively than before.


The project that been initiated by government will give a lot of benefit for Kedah and Malaysia economics and logistic sector. I had an experience with this type of project. During my internship at Ninja Van Logistics in Subang Hi-Tech, Shah Alam. That place is consider as dead place with no development and only KTM that can reach Batu Tiga. After Subang H-Tech becomes more progressive and lots of investor open up manufacturing company there such as Factory of sugar CSR, Digi Tower, Maxis Tower, Bank Negara Malaysia coin manufacturing and many others company.

The impact of Subang Hi-Tech had changed the environment of the business in that area and with a lots of business occur it will increase the infrastructure of the road and more new road had been link with it. For instance, Federal Highway, SS (Sungai-Wey Subang) and Subang Jaya.

As conclusion, I can imagine this SBEZ project that cover 11,800 acre will give a lots of benefit for surrounding area and it will be a developing area that can enhance the economy for Kedah. I bet that the road for Sintok will be paved again the traffic at Sintok will be increase with lorries. If this project succeed, Changlun infrastructure will be improve into developing area.
